Create and Manage FTP Accounts in cPanel

FTP stands for File Transfer Protocol. We can use FTP to manage files on our server or hosting account. cPanel is a server management panel that allows us to create and manage FTP accounts and other things like websites, database and much more on our server.

Using cPanel, we can create multiple FTP accounts for each website on our server. So that anyone with access to the server can manage files via FTP. With cPanel, it is very easy to create and manage FTP accounts. In this guide, you will learn the following things.

  • How to change the password of an FTP account.

  • How to change the quote of an FTP account.

So, let us get started with the first topic. It is fairly easy to create a new FTP account using cPanel.

How to create an FTP account in cPanel

First of all, login to your cPanel account. In cPanel, Find the Files section. In the files section, click on the FTP accounts option just like the following image.

On the FTP Accounts page, you will find a form just like the following image. It allows you to create a new FTP account. Enter the required information and hit the Create FTP Account button given at the bottom of the form.

Once done, your FTP account is ready. Now you can use any FTP client along with the login information to connect to your server via FTP. Now, let us learn how to change the FTP account password.

How to change the FTP account Password

On the same FTP accounts page, you will find a list of active FTP accounts. In the same list, you will find a Change password option under the Actions column for all the FTP accounts. Click on the Change Password option corresponding to the FTP account you want to update.

Now, Enter the new password twice and click on the Change Password button. Now, you can access your server via FTP using your new password.

How to delete an FTP account in cPanel

On the same page and in the same list, you will find a Delete option under the Actions column. Click the delete button and confirm the action to delete an FTP account in cPanel.

How to change FTP quota in cPanel

if you want to change FTP quota, click on the Change Quota option in the list of FTP accounts corresponding to the account you want to update.

Now, Enter the new quota and click the button ‘Change Quota’.
