When you register with the FastyCloud hosting plan you will get the option to create unlimited email accounts based on your domain name for eg if you are having a hosting account for the domain domainname.com then you can create an email account in the name [email protected], [email protected], etc. You can refer the following KB on how to create email accounts on our cPanel accounts.
Once you have sset upyour email account, next is to access your webmail. Please refer the kb on how to access your webmail.
Now everything is set you have created the email account and also verified to by accessing to the webmail. In the scenarios where you wanted to use email client as email accessing agent instead of the webmail you will have to configure your email client to connect to the SMTP server, so there need some settings to configure on the email client so that the email client application would connect to the SMTP server and these setting are called Mail settings. The mail settings are mainly as follows.
- Username
- Password
- Incoming Server
- Outgoing server
Username: It would be the email account user name which is for eg [email protected].
Password: Enter the email account password.
Incoming Server: In the category, you will have to enter incoming server_name which should be either the hostname of the server or the SMTP server name and it should be connected on the IMAP port 993,143 or POP ports 995,110.
Outgoing Server: which indicates from which server the emails are needed to be sent it should be either your hostname of the server or the SMTP server name. The emails are sent through the SMTP port 465 and 587.
The IMAP, POP3 and SMTP authentication should be enabled for the email client or else the application would not be connected to the server. Let me brief on the above 3 protocols SMTP protocol is used to send emails and IMAP and POP3 are used to retrieve those email to the receive those emails at the receiver side.
IMAP
Which is known as Internet Message Access Protocol and it acts as an intermediary between the email client and the mail server. An email client cannot to the email server using the IMAP protocol by connecting to either one of imap port 993 (secured port) or 143(Non secured port). If you configure your email client to use IMAP connection to the mail server then what is it does it that the email client will contact the server using IMAP and then it allows to read all the email headers and if you wanted to read a particular email, then on clicking that mail it would swiftly download the email on to your email client and thus you can view the email.
POP3
Stands for Post of protocol. The email client can connect to the email server using the pop3 protocol by connecting through the ports 995 (Secured port) or 110(Non secured port). It can be also said as “store and forward” service because once you have downloaded the email from the email server to the client then there wouldn’t be any copy, the mail on the email server would be deleted once it is downloaded it to the client. In some scenarios, an administrator can implement to save the email for some period of time once the time duration has elapsed it would be automatically deleted from the server.
SMTP
Simple Mail Transfer Protocol which is a push protocol is used to send emails from the email server. The email client who wanted to send email will connect a TCP connection to SMTP port 25 on the email server and then sends the email. There are two models of SMTP they are: –
1) End-to-end method: This is used to communicate between different organization.
2) Store and forward method: Is used to communicate within the same organization.
Now to wind up on the settings. You can configure your email client either on SSL and Non-SSL settings.
For SSL setting use the following configuration details.
Username: Enter the email ID
Password: Use the email account’s password.
Incoming Server: Enter the server Hostname
IMAP Port: 993 POP3 Port: 995
Outgoing Server: Enter the server Hostname
SMTP Port: 465
For Non-SSL settings use the following configuration details.
Username: Enter the email ID
Password: Use the email account’s password.
Incoming Server: Enter the server Hostname
IMAP Port: 143 POP3 Port: 110
Outgoing Server: Enter the server Hostname
SMTP Port: 587
