The Web Host Manager is a program which will allow you to easily administer your server without actually knowing the exact commands. It is an administrative access tool for the backend of the cPanel account in which one can create a cPanel account to avail hosting accounts. Users can easily manage any number of websites with the help of WHM. The Web Host Manager makes it easy for anyone to have their own dedicated server, even if they have no knowledge of Linux. WHM gives you a lot more control and flexibility when managing a large number of sites. It also gives you the option to create and manage multiple cPanel’s and giving you the ability to sell hosting services to other people. WHM is ideal if you are running your own server (whether a Dedicated Server or VPS) or when you want to resell web hosting services. You can access your Web Host Manager(WHM) by using the following links:

http://address:2086/ (no ssl)

or

https://address:2087/ (with ssl)

or

http://address/whm/

The address can be any domain hosted on the server or ip address. The front end of the WHM interface will look like the following:

WHM

What are the key benefits of WHM?

WHM allows users to create, delete and suspend cPanel accounts and allows users to change domain and usernames of clients. It also allows users to access DNS zones of all the domains. WHM has the total backend control over cPanel and has many other benefits for Virtual Private Servers and Dedicated servers as well. They are listed below:

1) WHM allows users to create individual accounts.

2) You can add domains to the server.

3) WHM allows users to install and manage SSL certificates.

4) It allows assignment and whitelisting of IP addresses.

5) You can create custom hosting packages.

6) Reset passwords/contact email addresses for cPanel accounts.

7) Set up private nameservers on the server.

8) Edit Resource Limits for cPanel accounts.

9) Clients can receive newsletters, updates and deal upgrades via WHM.

10) WHM allows other websites to brand themselves with different WHM skins.

11) It also monitors the status of the server and resources.

Difference between cPanel and WHM

WHM is a Reseller control panel. It is used by resellers to manage all the hosting accounts of their reseller plans. While cPanel is the control panel used by the end users under a reseller of hosting provider. It is used by customers to manage their own hosting accounts. WHM functions via 2087, a secure port number and on the other hand cPanel functions via 2083 as its secure port number. In WHM, one can only add domains and not subdomains. But in cPanel, adding and removing add-on domains and subdomains is possible. WHM provides resellers with root level access. While cPanel only provides access to web hosting account on the server to its users. As a conclusion, the Web Host Manager (WHM) is the account management panel that allows the hosting provider to manage their customers’ accounts. Creating new cPanel accounts and configuring the limits for the cPanel accounts are the examples of tasks that would be performed in WHM. While cPanel is the site management panel where each individual account holder controls the settings for their particular account. Creating e-mail accounts and managing their files for a particular domain are the tasks performed in cPanel rather than WHM.
